Today I worked from the Miami office. They were filming the show Dexter directly across the street from the studio. They filled up the auto garage lot with “Miami Store and Haul” trucks, and some Miami police cars. Long Beach passes for Miami all the time. It’s not uncommon to be riding my bike home on the bike path, and see a flipped over CSI Hummer, or a bunch of “spring break” mayhem going on in a 100 square foot spot of beach, with no one else on the sand for miles.

The IDEA award list came out today. It reminded me what was written on the back of Jonathan Adler’s showroom door in LA.
“We believe our designs are award winning even though they’ve never actually won any.”
The rest of Adler’s manifesto is here. It’s good stuff.
Speaking of manifestos, the absolute all time most amazing design studio manifesto is from Art Lebdev. I might have even posted something about this before.
It includes
“Everyone shall have the right to association, including the right to assemble peacefully, without weapons, throw parties and booze-ups, hold rallies, meetings and demonstrations, marches and pickets.
Everyone shall have the right to spend overnight in the Studio working.
Everyone shall have the right to food. Guarantees shall be provided for general access to everyday free lunches and coffee, the Studio’s kettle, fridge and tableware. Everyone shall have the right to receive on a competitive basis second helpings.”
The rest of the constitution is here.
While you are there, check out Artemy’s mandership page. It’s a blog-ish collection of thoughtful stories, reflections, and insights about design, art, and life in general. Definitely worth a read… the guy is a genius in my book.

…. is very nice in the summer.
In the roadside hotel room, there was a plastic coffee cup with a disposable core that snapped into place. I’ve never seen one before, but it looked like the kind of thing they’ve made 5 billion of since the 70’s. I felt like an anthropologist who discovered the key to a long lost traveling vacuum salesman culture.

The Love Me Tees Me Show opened Saturday at the Grand Central Art Center. A fun time for all… I was especially impressed with Chad Eaton’s work.
Across the hall were Lauri Lipton’s incredible drawings!!
Here are some of the T’s I did for the show. It’s a take on stencil protest / street art modified to fit the T shirt / silk screen world. So instead of spraypainting stencils over billboards, I’m silkscreening on top of existing shirts.
There are more but you get the idea….
My other work for the show was a heartfealt homage to the hessians of yester years. Remember that guy (yeah, it was you and me) who put his favorite band’s tour T shirt on his busted up Tercel seat in place of a seatcover?
Well…..

Over the weekend a friend shut down Portfolio Coffeehouse early for her birthday bash. DJ Oldboy played a great set of soul music, followed by Ray Barbee and the Mattson 2. AMAZING!
The slickest looking band ever.

I went down to the Grahm Street Press yesterday to print up some of my shirts for the art show. Ryan “the Delve made him do it” Bryant used his screen print robot to make things happen.
Dana Harvey was there as well working on his projects which are collaborations with tattoo artist Sid and Cody Lusby.

I have 2 “art” shirts that will be at a group show called Love Me Tees Me. Artists & designers were asked to create work that will be printed on T shirts. Have you ever heard of artwork on a T shirt? Well, I have, but I think there will be some interesting things going on… I’m really excited about my submissions which are 100% inspired by my Riverside roots. I’ll post pics but it’s a secret for now…..
